    Study skills

The practice exams are coming up. Ok but they are only "mock" exams, aren't they?  We don't need to study for them, right?

    WRONG!!!

You need to study for these exams because:

    • to get a proper exam practice you need to practise studying too
    • there are lots of different ways to study. Some will work for you better than others. November is too late to be trying to find out what works
    • recalling information two or three times over a period of time (e.g. August, November) helps to fix it in long term memory. "Cramming" all your study into a short time space only puts it in very short term memory
    • much better to do the bulk of your study over the next few weeks, while the days are still quite short and the weather not so great. In November you will have done most of the work and will only need to "brush up" your study. November.....when the days are long, the birds are singing, the weather can be lovely and your friends are going to the beach today when you were going to study...and the person you have got a bit of a thing for is in the group going to the beach..............

                    Get it done now!!!!!

    • if for some reason you can't sit some or all of your externals, e.g. illness, your performance in these exams becomes very important

    Convinced? You should be

The attached word document gives you some guidance on how to study.
